Freeport-McMoRan Sierrita Inc. ("Sierrita") has purchased the West Desert Preserve from the AZ State Land Dept. and now owns this land. Sierrita has renamed this area the "West Desert Trails", and public access and use of the trails is allowed if people apply for a free permit from Sierrita thru there website, www.wdtrails.com. This land is also being used for construction of pollution mitigation wells which will somewhat limit use of a few trails.
