Praise for bicycling community
Wednesday, October 24, 2007
My wife and I have been a “snowbird” resident of Green Valley for the past five years. The area’s unique and diverse desert and nearby mountains together with a warm and hospitable climate, combined with the community’s very broad cultural arts and outdoor activities brings us back each year.
One of the most important Green Valley recreational incentives for me has been the bicycle pathways, trails and lanes that provide me with one of my most important outdoor fitness activities.
These bicycling facilities are due largely to the groups, organizations and business’s of the bicycling community working in a cooperative effort to establish safe and appropriately located and designed bicycling facilities.
The Santa Cruz Valley Bicycle Advocate Committee and the Pima County Board of Supervisors and staff should be praised for their accomplishments to provide a safe bicycle environment in the Green Valley area.
Each year, I have noticed more bicyclists on Green Valley and Pima County roads. It is apparent Pima County will have to continue to plan and develop additional bicycle facilities.
Those of us who live in Green Valley temporarily are grateful for the cooperative efforts of those who reside here for the entire year.
Because of progressive citizen participation and cooperation with government we can pedal safely.
