The Santa Cruz Valley Bicycle Advocate Committee had many accomplishments this year. Besides holding their sixth annual Ride of Silence memorial ride in May, the group was instrumental in the completion of four bike lane projects, on Sahuarita Road, the I-19 east frontage road, Continental Road and Whitehouse Canyon Road.
Two shared-use paths were completed on La Villita and again on Whitehouse Canyon Road, while the Anza Trail was connected to the Abrego trail head thru Torres Blancas Golf Club.
The committee also oversaw the updating of the Santa Cruz Valley Bike Map and printed 12,000 copies for distribution.
"It was a really good year," Chuck Hill, who sits on the committee says. "We got so much done. In the last five years we have tripled the number of bike lanes available in the valley."
There is now a total of 62 miles of bike lanes in the Green Valley, Sahuarita area, compared to 20 miles of lanes in 2005.
